Spanish-cedar is the most frequently used wood for the interior veneer of humidors as it holds more moisture than most woods as well as imparts its aroma to cigars. This item is nice for desktop humidors because you don't have to add the distilled water / alcohol mix to the conventional ones. You just take the cap off, drop it in there and add water once the beads get below the line. Too easy. The problem I have had with them is that if you live in a dry climate they will only bring humidity levels to about 40%. I would recommend going with two of them instead of just one.
I live in dry-as-a-bone Colorado, so I need to keep a lot of moisture in my humidor. I use two of these in a 50 cigar box and they keep it steady at 70% for about 2 weeks before they need a refill. I'm happy with that!
